...one thing we have noticed however is that many of the sewer lines appear to be missing the arrows. I thought we'd gone through those a long time ago, before we started focussing on the point symbols, though I suppose it's possible we missed some.

2010-11-15 Investigation

I tried transforming some sewerln_with_attributes.shp files and eventually found a sewer line missing a style. I queried the element and it was set to the correct style and level. I then tried to draw a line using Autocad over the top of the sewer line with the correct style set and the same result happened. I extended the line incremently and eventually the line style appeared.

Conclusion: The style of the line is only applied if the line segments are a specific length, which is dictated by the linestyle definition. You can alter this effect by changing the global scale of the linestyle but this will also alter the size of the arrows along the linestyle.
