Golf - Fairway Course Guides

I n t r o d u c t i o n A VRML golf course was required by a company called Coursmaster for marketing purposes. The idea was to allow people and golfers to view golf courses based on actual courses through a internet browser. D e v e l o p m e n t The first stage was to convert DGN files conatining actual models of golf courses into VRML. The dhp11 developers created a microstation translator to do this.

The developers worked with a 3rd party VRML browser plug-in created by Cortona. A website was created to allow the extracted golf courses to be viewed via the web and which also connects to a database to record various statistics whcih can be used to make improvments. The VRML golf courses can be navigatated using the keyboard arrow keys which allows you to see the golf course from any angle. Flythrus, walkthrus and various key viewpoints of interest to keen golfers, were also implemented.

Dynamic features were also implemented into the VRML golf courses, such as auotmatically updating billboards and hoardings, competition advertismenets, etc F i n i s h i n g T o u c h e s The various parts of the system were developed carfully to allow easy updates and with the aid of an SVG reporting facility (which was developed simultaniously with the database reporting) and carful monitoring of the other statistics, newer improvments can be made that most members of the system will like to see.
