Drinks Rules

  1. We operate a strict tea-rota policy. Everyone takes their turn. The rules are quite embarassingly complex, but the essence is that at the 'nominated times' the person with the least points makes a drink for everyone that wants one. You get a point for each drink you make, increasing your score and decreasing everyone elses.

  1. The drink times are: 08:30, 10:30, 01:30, 15:00. You don't have to have a drink at this time, however, you must not make yourself a drink soon afterwards.

  1. The first person to arrive in the morning has the option to make the first round of drinks. If they decline the person with the lowest points is obliged to make the first round. If someone lives on site then they cannot claim 'first round privilege' until 08:25.

  1. If you want a drink at any other time you can make it yourself or the person on the lowest points can make it if more than one person wants a drink.

  1. When making drinks you must stay in the kitchen and finish making the drink. You can wander outside or fetch the post. You are not allowed to come back inside while the kettle is boiling. If you do then the drinks are free, unless the drinks your are making are already free in which case you make another round of free drinks.
You can come back in to collect any cups you forgot or to get petty cash if milk is needed.

  1. When someone is in a meeting and you make a drink for them you don't take a point off them.

  1. If someone asks for coffee and they normally drink tea and you make tea by mistake then you don't take a point.

  1. If you are making free drinks it only applys to those in the office at that time.

  1. Free drinks take priority over lowest points.

  1. If there is a game to decide who does the free drinks first you are not allowed to go and see if there is any milk before you start the game.

  1. If the person to make drinks is busy or on the phone you can offer to make drinks.

  1. You must add your drink points before you leave the room to make the drink. If you forget you can ask someone else to put your points on (without stepping into the office) but they get a point.

  1. If the drinks point server is not operational on any machine a game is used to decided who gets the option to make the drinks. Points can be added later when the drinks point server is working.

  1. If your machine crashes or hangs and you can not put your points on, you can uses someone elses computer to add your points but whoevers computer you use they do not get a point for letting you use the pc.

  1. If the drinks scores are tied or more than 1 person was late you have a game to decided. Upon finishing the game, the person who is making the drinks must do so within five minutes after the decision has been made. Failure to do so will result in a round of free drinks, even if the drinks being made are free.

  1. No new rules or modifications of existing rules are valid until everyone has read them and agreed with them.

General Drink Making Policy

  1. Cups are washed out for each round of drinks. (If you spill some of the drink down the side of the cup when carrying or stiring, does this mean the cup is dirty?)
  2. Coffee is not made with super boiled water (make the teas first).
  3. Tea is made with super boiled water (make coffee second).
  4. All drinks are stirred properly to ensure correct mixing of all ingredients.
  5. Mugs are filled to a level between 1/4" and 1/2" from the rim. (If you spill some on the way up the stairs do you go back and top the drink up with more water?)
  6. Kitchen is left tidy:
  7. # No milk bottle tops left lying around.
  8. # Milk back in fridge or empty bottle in crate (see Milk Freak?).
  9. # Used tea bags in the recycling bin.
  10. # Teaspoons cleaned and back on the tray.
  11. # No spilt sugar/milk/water etc. on surfaces.
  12. # Sink clean and empty.
  13. If you find an empty milk bottle you get three points from the last person to have made a drink.
  14. # If you make drinks and finish a pint of milk, you arn't allowed to top up the empty bottle with milk from a fresh pint in the fridge,or water down the feable amout of milk left in the bottle.
  15. # Also, when making a drink and there is just enough for a round of drink, you have to use it all and can't opt out to not have a drink, a black drink, or just water unless stated before leaving the room.
  16. # You must obey the fridge graphics, even if having cereal or other foods/drinks requiring milk, in which case the rules above still apply.
  17. # If you find more than one empty bottle its only 3 point max.
  18. # This apply just to collected bottles only.
  19. # You are not allowed to secretly place empty personal milk bottles in order to swindle points.
  20. # Deliberate waste of milk in order to entrap the next drink maker will mean a loss of 3 points.
  21. # If a customer makes drinks for the rest of us and finsihes a bottle then they should follow the rules also.

Unacceptable drink making stategies and Psychological Milk Warfare

  1. Excessive use of milk when it's your round.
  2. Drinking milk or pouring it down the sink.
  3. Diluting the milk.
  4. Using a secret stash of tea bags or milk.
  5. When there is just enough milk for another round, you must use all the milk and not leave a drop in it, in an attempt to psychologically weaken the next person to make drinks.
  6. You can not pretend to go to the toilet and make yourself a drink in secret (water is acceptable).
  7. When your drinks arrive you can not dirty your cups in some mad conspiracy fashion in order to get a free drink by default.
  8. If having cereal you must leave the kitchen tidy.
  9. You can not remove someones points while they are making a drink.
